Forensic accountant Maggie Martin survives the sudden death of her husband, the charismatic President of Windsor College, only to uncover the secrets of his carefully-concealed double life. Dealing with the financial and emotional wreckage left in Paul's wake, she is stunned to learn he inherited an estate known as Rosemont in the seemingly serene Midwestern town of Westbury. Why had he never told her?

Maggie travels to Westbury for the stated purpose of listing Rosemont for immediate sale, but what she really seeks are answers to her all-consuming questions about her sham of a marriage, her sham of a life. She never anticipated the seductive charm of Rosemont. Throwing her trademark caution to the wind, and over the objections of her opinionated grown children, she pulls up stakes and moves halfway across the country, determined to make a fresh start in Westbury. Behind closed doors, however, lurks a cadre of evildoers, playing with multiple wild cards of fraud, embezzlement and arson. With a quiet, orderly - and distinctively solitary - life in mind, Maggie is instead thrown headlong into a crusade against political corruption, where defeat and retreat are not an option. Still bearing the scars of betrayal, will she find joy, romance and possibility in Westbury?

This fast-paced, smart novel has enough twists and turns to make the listener want to buckle in!

OK, so a real mixed bag of reviews. I had a friend who wouldn't really care for this book but I have one who would enjoy it. We're all different, some books are of interest and some are not. It just depends on what YOU like and want from a book. I, personally, enjoy escaping from my real world of uber busy and stress filled days to read something that takes me away from my constantly talking mind and allows me to sleep with less troubling information occupying my mind. I don't want a sad reality story as my world is filled with those painful happenings.
Fortunately for me, I didn't find this book until all four were written. I found I couldn't put them down. I've learned to read it while taking out the garbage, doing laundry, walking from here to there, and cooking dinners. I am taking care of a husband who is 6'4" and a virtual infant due to double falls and brain damage which has me busy all day and all night.
This story captivated me with its intrigue. I enjoy old homes, attics filled with surprises, women's friendships, family stories, most especially when the characters are developed to the point of being able to see them and where they live and work. There are so many unfaithful husbands who live in one world with their wives and another with their mistresses so I related to that development in the story. I guess what I'm saying is I can understand some readers just aren't drawn to this type of a story but, for those of us who are, it's totally a winner.
I am a small town gal who knows what folks are doing but takes the newspaper simply to see who's been caught. I find this story very hard to share due to the creative maze of all that's happening to each of the characters and how it intersects with other characters. The twist and turns, the introduction of a thread and its development, the quickness of moving from one thing to the next introduction of different characters is real genius. I can only imagine Barbara Hinske's process while writing this story when I try to share the story with a friend. It's incredible! I have just started the fourth book and I'm wishing there were more to come. The publisher, not the author, is responsible for things some people have commented on, i.e., spelling and grammar, but those things don't change the plot for me. Some have commented on the unrealistic nature of the story, the predictability, but I find this series most enjoyable, certainly something I hate to have to put down until "later". Try it, you might like it as much as I do.

Coming to Rosemont (Audible Audio Edition) Barbara Hinske Dina Pearlman Audible Studios Books Reviews

This is a fairytale storyline...woman's distant and unfaithful husband suddenly dies leaving her with a beautiful estate she never knew about. Once she sees it she is not leaving as it is a gorgeous mansion in a perfect little town. That's just it, everything in this book is perfect. Everything just seems to fall into place for Maggie. Which is fine because it is nice to know you can escape to the perfection in this book after all the negativity around us in our everyday lives. It was also refreshing to see that the main character, Maggie, is a woman in her fifties...the new fifties! She is like the rest of us fiftysomething women; accomplished, able to still have a career yet remain close to their children, and not giving in to the idea that fifty means all the fun in life is gone and more importantly, you don't have to look like what fifty looked like years ago. While this book is not some great master literary piece, it is a nice comfort book, like a fluffy chair. Looking forward to the next book.
This has been a wonderful series of books from this author. Instead of the main character being a naive waif, the author has a 50-ish career women who happens to be newly widowed when the series starts. Also, instead of concentrating on the main all the time, we get other characters POV and actions. Everything that happens in these books is very real and believable. Best of all, I don't feel like I've dropped a half dozen IQ points after I've finished a book.
It is most off-putting to attempt to read a book that is so rife with usage mistakes. It is clearly unedited. The author in multiple instances uses the word "discrete" when the context requires "discreet". She mentions a situation being "hair-brained" when the term is "hare-brained". In two instances she writes of an election being a "shoe-in" when the correct term is "shoo-in".
It is a highly unlikely tale of a woman of unimaginable luck and it reads like a wish-fulfillment dream sequence. If you wish to read something of no substance and you can wade through the abysmal ignorance, this book is written for you.
This woman is an attorney?!
I am not an avid fiction reader, but found the charming, quick-moving Coming to Rosemont so crammed with adventure, emotion and happenstance, it was hard to put down.
After years of unrequited devotion to her self-centered-college-president-embezzler husband, he dies suddenly, but not before one last utterance to his wife, Maggie, "I'm sorry" and "The house is yours." The house turns out to be a manor called Rosemont in Westbury, U.S.A. , which Maggie knew nothing about. Smitten immediately by its stately appearance, she decides to keep rather than sell the fabulous property, move to Westbury and begin her new life. This, she feels, is what she was truly born for Mistress of Rosemont. Of course, she quickly learns all is not well in Westbury. There are problems, villains and intrigue that keep the plot moving sprightly along.
Maggie is a delightfully intimate woman who escorts us through the manor with delectable descriptions of each room that make you want to open windows and doors, run your hands over walls, curl up in a chair and stroll through the garden. The same can be said of the Westbury shops she visits, and the people she meets and befriends. This tightly constructed, plot-driven novel offers no down time whatsoever. But plot rests do occur in her detailed portrayals of the shops she visits, the table she sets and the pastries she peruses in her new friend's bakery. It is a sensual trove of sights and smells and feelings, a picture you want to be in, a town you want to visit, food you want to taste. Pure joy! But withal, no lack of action and gasps on every page and, of course, budding romance. There's much too much to be contained in this short first novel; so I am already looking forward to another Rosemont episode.
